This year, the United Nations has chosen "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" as the theme for International Women's Day. It serves as a powerful reminder of the collective action needed to drive positive change and advance gender equality. Speaking of investing in women, to me, I think as women, it is important that we prioritise investing in ourselves and our potential to bring the gender gap closer.
For me personally, I have dedicated time and effort to study and read books on self-development as a means of investing in myself. It’s been eye-opening. Through this journey, I have not only gained knowledge and skills, but I have also learned to see things differently, which helped me unlock new opportunities. One memorable instance comes to mind when I discussed a particular topic with a friend. While my friend saw nothing but problems and barriers, I saw a chance for growth and opportunities. This perspective allowed me to approach the situation with optimism and a proactive mindset. I learned that for me to come out successful, I have to work on my mindset to be growth-oriented and build my self-belief. I can then overcome all hurdles, get used to changes and create more life-changing impacts in my life and that of others.
Investing in ourselves is also something that exceeds the boundaries concerned with the learning of knowledge and skills, it's actually about maintaining our well-being levels, setting boundaries and then asking for the help that we need in a timely manner. We must be kinder to our inner selves and target our wellness and good health as well. When we are able to replenish our vitality and resilience, it becomes possible for us to maintain our dedicated activities which in turn help to expedite our progress.
Today on the International Women's Day, we pledge to invest in ourselves and celebrate the confidence and potential that women have, and to build the strength to overcome obstacles, question the ways of the society, and break the glass ceilings. Let us foster a culture where self-belief, resilience, and determination thrive, empowering women to achieve their dreams and create a world where gender equality is a reality.
